If you want to have a kick ass team performing at the highest level, fundamentally it boils down to two critical areas:
1) You need to hire great people to help the company grow. You are only one key hire a way from transforming your whole business. But there is an art to attracting and recruiting “A” players at a level you can afford.
2) You need to get your team to:
a) perform/deliver (the easiest way to make an “A” player a “B” player is to put them under a “B” player manager and with a team of “B” player colleagues
b) constantly expand and improve. Steven Covey called this “sharpening the saw.” The company won’t be able to sustainably grow if the people within it don’t grow!
Said differently, if you want a better business, become a better business owner. Learn how to recruit top performers and have them work miracles inside your business.
David has helped two of the fastest growing companies in the USA grow and develop their teams and I used one of the frameworks discussed in this interview when I grew one of my businesses from £500k to just under £5m in less than two years before selling it to a public listed company in 2014.
P.S. I’m going to open one date in the next month or so for an intensive “Strategic Planning Day” for just 12 business owners. You’ll leave the day with a clear strategic plan for your business that you can immediately go and execute.
My minimum day rate this year is £6,000, so the investment will be just £500 per business owner.
