A few weeks back I wrote a business plan for new coaches, trainers and consultants. I deliberately kept it simple, so simple that it worried me.
However, I received an email telling me that it really helped to have the steps laid out so clearly and obviously. I thought that I’d approach time management and productivity in the same way.
There are few numbers more simple than the number 3. Three Musketeers, three amigos; three stooges, three bears… the list goes on.
You can dramatically enhance your goal setting and your ability to action the necessary steps by training your brain to think in 3’s.
- Set a plan for the year with 3 main priorities.
- Set a plan for the quarter with 3 main priorities.
- Set a plan for the month with 3 main priorities.
- Set a plan for the week with 3 main priorities.
- Set a plan for the day with 3 main priorities.
- Set a plan for the hour with 3 main priorities- 20 mins, 20 mins, 20 mins.
- You get it…?
Take action: grab a pen and paper and map out your time in 3’s using this simple top-down formula.
Now you should also plan to enhance the time you spend in each day while following your 3 focus plan.
What are the 3 activities I need to boost most? (Think Pareto Principle: what is that 20% of activity that gets 80% of the result?)
What are the 3 activities I need to reduce or eliminate most? (These are usually distraction activities with no purpose- the empty calories of the time management world)
Now go about your day and focus on ways to improve your focus and your output by just 3%. Ask:
“how can I give just 3% more to this task: 3% more focus, 3% more energy, 3% more positivity, 3% more creativity?’
I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me. Let me know your thoughts by commenting below…
