Getting the sales isn’t the problem… it’s keeping it!
Once you are past start up phase and you’ve proven people are willing to buy your products and services, the question is can you operate profitably?
In other words, how efficient are you at controlling expenses so you are keeping holding of some of the sales you make as profit because of the value you have created?
Don’t smoke from the small business crack pipe of “more sales=more profit”
More people go broke trying to grow than just maintaining status quo.
I’m a fan of more revenue if your business is operating efficiently. But driving faster in the wrong direction won’t get you where you want to be any faster!
- How much profit did you make last month, quarter and year?
- How does this compare to the same period last year?
- How does this compare to your budget? (you do have a budget don’t you?)
If you can’t answer the above questions succinctly, you’ve got some work to do.
Don’t be moronic like most small business owners and just go out there and try and sell more. That’s why most business owners are overworked and underpaid. Don’t be one of them.
Now go think! Let me know how you get on…
