I’ve broken my personal best 3 times in the last week!
OK, so I’ll admit I’m a little obsessed with my Fitbit. (if you don’t know it’s a little wristband you wear that tracks the number of steps you take each day amongst other things)
Fitbit works because it gets you to pay attention to if you’re being active enough.
And what you measure tends to improve.
BUT I’ve had my Fitbit for months, what caused me to go into overdrive last week?
In a word, competition.
A very successful entrepreneurial friend of mine, Steve Bolton, invited me to a challenge of who could do the most steps between Monday and Friday.
And because the Fitbit app let you see how you are doing compared to the person you’re competing with… it caused me to go absolutely crazy!
I get out of bed, I went for a walk.
In my lunch hour, I’m going for a walk.
During a phone call I put on hands free and I’m pacing up and down my office.
The end result? I broke my previous record for most steps in a day, 3 times, in one week!
What you measure and REPORT on, tends to improve exponentially
How can you apply this to your business?
Are you clear on what the key metrics are that drive your business? Are you measuring them? Are you reporting on them, to friends or colleagues
Most entrepreneurs are competitive. Use it as a competitive advantage!
